Selecting the Right Domestic Channel
For most domestic patio and garden path applications, a polypropylene A15 channel with a polypropylene or galvanised grate is appropriate and cost-effective. Where a shallower installation depth is required, the Euro Mini polymer concrete channel offers a reduced overall depth.
If vehicles will cross the drain at any point, a B125 driveway channel is required. Do not use A15 products in vehicle areas.

Can these channels be used at commercial premises?
These A15 channels can be considered for pedestrian-only paths and paved areas at homes or commercial premises, subject to the project specification. The commercial tag does not mean they can take cars, vans, forklifts or delivery vehicles. Select a suitable higher load class wherever vehicles can reach the drain.
Which A15 channel is shallowest?
Of these four families, Euro Mini has a 50mm-deep body and no separate accessories. The shallow plastic channels have a 63mm-deep body, while Eurokit is 85mm deep. Allow additional space for the bedding and surround required by the installation instructions; body depth is not the full excavation depth.
What does A15 mean for domestic drainage?
A15 is a load classification under EN 1433 indicating the channel has been assessed for pedestrian and light landscaped-area use. It is not suitable for areas where vehicles will cross the channel.
Can I use a domestic channel on my driveway?
Only if no vehicles will cross the drain. If vehicles will use the area, a B125-rated driveway channel is required as a minimum, subject to correct product selection and installation.
What is polymer concrete and why is it used?
Polymer concrete is a composite material offering higher strength, chemical resistance and dimensional stability compared to polypropylene. It is used for channels requiring greater durability or where the installation environment is more demanding.
What accessories do I need to complete a domestic channel run?
A typical domestic installation requires channels, grates, end caps or stop ends, at least one end cap outlet connecting to the underground drain, and any corners or connectors required for your layout.
What is the difference between a polypropylene and a polymer concrete A15 channel?
Polypropylene A15 channels are lighter and generally more economical. Polymer concrete A15 channels such as the Euro Mini offer greater material strength and dimensional stability. Both are suitable for pedestrian-area applications.
Do I need a building regulation approval for domestic drainage?
Surface water drainage connections may require Building Regulations compliance depending on the project scope and local authority requirements. Seek independent guidance for your specific project.
